Longtime customers of ours are probably familiar with our Rhubarb Wit that we’ve been making once a year for many years now. This year, we decided to switch things up and use the same Belgian Wit strain of yeast with the same proportion of rhubarb, but with a gose base instead. The result is a mildly tart, hazy beer with a silky smooth, creamy mouthfeel (from the use of raw wheat, malted wheat, and oats), a classic citrusy, spicy, lightly fruity Belgian Wit aroma, and flavors of light rhubarb, lemon, and sourdough.
Belgian Rhubarb Sour (5.2% ABV) is really just a fun beer to drink. Not too tart. Not very sweet. A perfect complement to a cheese slate, fruity desserts, salads, and seafood.
We conducted an informal poll of our team to ask them which of our four upcoming, brand new birthday sours are their favorites. The results are all over the board- such is the beautify of a diversity of palates! However, our Head Brewer Chris picked this beer – the Belgian Rhubarb Sour – as his favorite. It’s probably due to his penchant for Belgian beers and an appreciation for just the right amount of tart!
