Every small business has a never ending list of things on the ‘to do’ list. All you can do is prioritize the list and then knock items off one by one as time and money allow. One thing we have had on our list since we’ve opened is to install acoustic tiles. After all, when things get a big crowded in here, the noise goes up and sometimes makes it a bit hard to hear!
We are very excited to announce that thanks, in part, to our mug club members (who a portion of their mug club subscription goes to help us fund projects), we now have acoustic tiles in the red hall in our pub! I know when we said acoustic tiles some people thought we were going to hang up funny looking material on the ceiling. Did we do that? No! Can you see the tiles in the picture below?

What we ended up doing is replacing our framed pictures on the walls with acoustic tiles instead. On the left hand side of the wall, we feature four farmers that we work with on a regular basis. Next to the hops is our farmer, Katie Malloy, who works about four acres here at Hobbs Farm. Next to the jalapeños is Renee Cantara, of New Roots Farm. Anyone that has enjoyed our Spicy Bohemian (jalapeño pilsener) can thank Renee, who supplies us with all the peppers for this beer!

Next up on the wall is Abigail Wiggin of Wake Robin Farm and Josh Jennings of Meadow’s Mirth Farm. We buy produce from Abbey for our kitchen, but, for the beer lovers out there, you might like to know that the watermelon for our Watta Melon ale comes from Wake Robin Farm. In addition, all the ginger beers we have done – like our Oh Snap!, which is on tap now, – have come from ginger at Wake Robin. Josh’s ingredients have been featured in our beers for many years – Fennel Flower Stout, the carrots for our Carrot Cake Milk Stout, the beets for our Just Beet Wit, and more! We also buy produce from Meadow’s Mirth Farm – via Three Rivers Farmers’ Alliance.

One of the best parts of working on this project was discovering the amazingly talented photographer Jen Bilodeau, who took the pictures of the farmers as well as the tomato picture that appears on the tile between Josh and Abbey. She did such a great job, that we had her back in to take additional pictures of our team!

These tiles are working so well that we already have plans for more tiles in the bar area and in the main part of the pub as well. It’s just another thing on our list! 🙂
