As many of you know, our vision at Throwback is to make beer from ingredients within 200 miles. Depending upon the beer (and my cousin Andrea’s availability of malt at Valley Malt 🙂 ), we are between 65 to 95% of the way there.
A key to achieving our vision is to be able to source local hops.  We are very fortunate to work with a Maine hop farmer – Aroostook Hops – located on a beautiful farm in Westfield, Maine.  Last year, we bought about 40% of their harvest, which consists of 1 acre of mature yard.  They have about 650 mature plants on that one acre , and they have added over 4000 new plants this and last year to their 3 acre expansion.
In order to grow their business, and to support growing businesses like ours,  Aroostook Hops is now in need of a sprayer and mechanical harvester to get their hops to local brewers like ourselves. So they’ve launched an indiegogo campaign, and they need our and your support.  The first three campaign supporters to mention that they heard about it from Throwback get a free bar of hops soap, AND at the end of the campaign a winner of a free Aroostook Hops cap  (shown below) will also be randomly selected from supporters that mention us.  So please go to this site – http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/make-it-a-hoppy-harvest-in-maine  and help out a small, family owned business – which in turn, helps out ours!

Hop pickin'!

Picking hops sure looks like a blast, but it is time consuming without the right equipment!

Wonder if the hat smells like fresh Maine hops?? :)

Support Aroostook Hops – mention Throwback and you could win this cool cap!

Cheers!
