Each month on the first Friday, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center hosts a STEM speaker. On Friday, February 3rd that speaker…is us! We’ll be talking about the Science of Beer for about an hour. Past presenters have included everyone from poets to astronauts, scientists to teachers, and when we found out a major goal for the museum has been to encourage young girls to enter into science careers, we jumped at the chance!

The talk is followed by an optional planetarium visit and telescope viewing. So cool!

Here’s more on the topic:

Ever wondered why your beer tastes the way it does and how commercial breweries can turn out beer that tastes the same batch after batch? The answer is science! In this talk, Throwback Brewery Co-Founders Annette and Nicole will go over the process of how beer is made, describing the science along the way. From microbiology to chemistry to engineering and with a whole lot of math in between, you can’t make (or taste!) really great beer without the wonders of science. Join us and learn plenty of fun facts about one of the world’s most popular and oldest beverages!
