In recent years, the role of animals in supporting human well-being has gained significant attention. From service dogs aiding individuals with disabilities to therapy dogs providing comfort in various settings, and emotional support animals offering companionship and emotional stability, the realm of assistance animals is diverse and multifaceted.
In this 45 minute session, Dr Elizabeth Branconi (Eli) will delve into the distinct roles and responsibilities of service dogs, therapy dogs, and emotional support animals, exploring their training, legal protections, and the vital contributions they make to the lives of those they assist. Accompanying Eli will be Onyx, a mini goldendoodle and a certified Therapy Dog and Service dog. Eli will walk you through the process of how Onyx achieved these certifications. She will also discuss the significant impact dogs like Onyx can have to one’s mental health and wellbeing.
Dr. Elizabeth Braconi is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker dedicated to the field of social work with a specialization in treating trauma. Over her 16 year career, she has seen and experienced the vast and lasting impact trauma has on children and adults. She seeks to walk gently on the earth and create a world of understanding to promote wellness, safety, and genuine experiences for ourselves and each other.
