For the past 10+ years, to add a little excitement to these cold New England Winter months, we’ve run a little beer series called Unafraid of the Dark. For those of you not familiar with Unafraid of the Dark, it’s a limited edition dark beer series that runs January through March. The beers in the series are all dark, they are all brand new, and they are all small batch!
This year, there will be three beers in the series. Starting on Black Friday, you can buy a card to the series that will entitle you (or your gift recipient) to one four pak each of the three new brews. As a ‘thank you’ for buying into the series, you will also get a discount off the retail prices of the beer! Here’s what we are planning to brew:
- January 2022 – an Imperial Stout with Caramelized (local) Miso (11.1% ABV) – we are expecting some sweet umami magic here!
- February 2022 – a Tropical Lagered Stout with Coconut and Tropical Hops (7.5% ABV)
- March 2022– Belgian Stout with Currants (7.2% ABV) – we are aiming for a silky smooth beer with notes of coffee roast and a fruity tartness from the currants

This is the first year we are going to be canning the Unafraid of the Dark beers, and we are thrilled with the way the artwork came out. In fact, we love it so much that we are also going to be making up some long sleeve t-shirts with the artwork on them! The t-shirts will cost $25, and they will be ready to pick up in January when the first beer is released. You can buy the long sleeve t-shirt without buying into the dark beer series. However if you buy into the beer series, you can get the shirt for $20, saving you $5!

Unafraid of the Dark makes a great gift for a friend, loved one, or yourself! So, buy an Unafraid of the Dark card, and bring a bit of dark deliciousness to 2022!
For those of you thinking, “YUMMY! Sign me up!” or “Oh, I need to get this as a gift for XXX!!”, here are some answers to the most common questions:
When are the Cards Sold?: We will start selling Unafraid of the Dark “beer cards” starting Friday, November 26th, running through December 31st (or until we sell out). We will also be posting a link to grab them on our square store.
How to buy: To order your card, stop by the brewery during our open hours . If you want us to take your credit card details over the phone and mail you the card, we can do that, but we will add 2 dollars to the price of the card to cover the extra fees we have to pay for manually entering in a card and for the postage. If that works for you, give us a call at (603) 379-2317. You can also buy online!
I already know I am not going to be around / I will be out of the area for one of the beers, will you put it aside for me? If you know that you can’t pick up on of the beers during the month, please email us at info@throwbackbrewery.com to let us know, and we will put it aside for you.
Do I really need to bring my card in each time I get a fill? No. Most folks let us keep their card in a little box right here at the brewery. A few folks preferred to hang on to their own card. If you do prefer to hang on to it, you will need to bring it with you, as it helps both of us keep track of what beers you have filled, and what beers remain.
Can I buy the card as a gift for someone else? Yes! We think that is a wonderful idea! If you want to buy an additional one for yourself, we won’t judge. 🙂
It is May 2022, and I have x punches on the card I didn’t use, can I come in and grab these beers? In order for this program to be manageable for us, the cards are only valid through the end of April 2022. That gives you a whole extra month to pick up your beer. As noted above, if you can’t make it in, or you can’t send one of your friends / family in to get your beers during the allotted time period, then please give us a call or email us, and we will put the beer aside for you.
When do I get the first Unafraid Beer? We will email everyone that signed up sometime after Christmas but before New Year’s to let you know all the details about the first beer and when you can pick it up. If you don’t hear from us, then give us a call – we might have your email wrong, or the email ended up in your spam!
