We have a few musicians here at Throwback (mostly fiddlers and guitar players) and there’s nothing we appreciate more than hanging out with the gang after a long day and night in the pub with some home-grown music. Not only are we in awe of our musicians (and just the slightest bit jealous of their talent), but we also find music to be comforting and fun. There just seems to be something about singing, stomping, or clapping along to a song that goes really, really well with beer.
Because we love hearing music around the brew house and pub so much, we decided to recruit the talents of local guitarist Chris O’Neill to teach guitar lessons here at Throwback! Over the course of 8 lessons, Chris will teach beginner and intermediate musicians working knowledge of a few simple songs that the group chooses in the first week. He will teach the rhythmic and melodic basics to the group and then create sub-groups to focus on playing pieces targeting to each ability level.
The first lesson will be held in the Brew House on Thursday, March 25th, from 6-7pm and will be held every other week after that. The cost is $80 for the full course of right lessons. This is a big savings compared to private lessons!
It is also a great deal for such a great teacher. Chris has been playing string instruments since he was 10 and picked up the violin for the first time. After two years of traditional and classic training, he switched to the guitar, where he’s stayed. Chris can boast nearly 30 years of playing, practicing, and teaching guitar. He has performed all across New England, both as a soloist and as lead guitarist for the Amorphous Band. Some highlights of his solo career have been playing on stages in support of Robert Cray and John Hiatt, w/Sonny Landreth, The Bad Plus, Johnny A., Harvey Reid, Denny Breau, Lincoln Meyers and others. While his 2006 solo debut “Truth Is…” has roots in Jazz, Blues, and Classical styles, Chris is always trying something new- like teaching in a brewery!
